Unique fragrance creations from Bern
The history of perfume is almost as old as the history of mankind. The first traces lead back to ancient Egypt. While perfumes at that time were mainly dedicated to the gods and the dead, today perfumes underline our personality and character. Fragrances have always accompanied us through life, nothing has changed in that regard.

The history of perfume
Thousands of years ago, people began capturing and preserving the diverse and unique scents from nature. The resulting fragrance mixtures were dedicated to the gods, were used as a medicinal agent and were part of ceremonies for the deceased. For example, the dead were embalmed with fragrant ointments and oils. The basis of perfumes included flowers, fruits, spices, resins, animal secretions and essential oils. Today, countless synthetic fragrances are used to add to the incredibly large world of scents from nature. Scents have always accompanied humanity in a wide variety of ways.

Fragrant knowledge
Top, heart & base notes
When it comes to perfumes, you can't avoid the terms "top, middle and base notes". What do they mean?
Top note
The top note is the beginning of a fragrance creation. It is the first thing we notice after applying it. The top note is usually characterized by slightly volatile, fresh fragrances that are no longer noticeable after a short time.
Heart note
As the name suggests, the heart note gives the perfume its actual scent character; it is the heart of the fragrance creation. The heart note is perceived for much longer than the top note. It is usually made up of floral accords.
Base note
The base note adheres best to the skin and is therefore perceived for hours. The scent develops individually for each person. The base note rounds off the entire fragrance composition. Spicy, woody aromas are used for the base note.

Perfume or eau de toilette?
concentration makes the difference
In everyday language, we hardly distinguish between a perfume and an eau de toilette, but there is one important difference: the concentration of the fragrance composition. The higher the concentration, the more valuable the product. Perfume does not contain any water and the proportion of the fragrance composition is 15% to 30%. In eau de toilette, on the other hand, there is only around 10%. The concentration determines how long a fragrance lasts on the skin. Perfume is therefore the most valuable product.
