Marmot oil, pure and powerful

Our ancestors' lives were hard. They looked for powerful remedies for their backs, muscles and joints in their immediate surroundings. Herbs, minerals and animal products were available to them. In the process, they discovered many amazing powers and active ingredients. Marmot oil (also called marmot fat) has been a tried and tested household remedy for centuries.

Marmot oil

100% natural, raw, and powerful

Marmot oil from Swiss hunting is a rare and precious oil. We can only organize this in very limited quantities. Our marmot herbal ointments are our most important natural product. The demand for our marmot herbal ointments is so great that we need the pure marmot oil to make the ointments. Our recommendation as an alternative: Use our tried and tested marmot herbal ointment more intensively - several times a day.

Our marmot oil

100% pure and from Swiss hunting

We have been offering marmot fat since 1981. Our marmot oil is 100% pure, natural and from Switzerland. We do not add any fragrances, colors or preservatives. Our marmot oil comes without exception directly from Swiss hunters. This means we can be sure that the marmots live in their natural habitat in the Swiss Alps. Our marmot oil is produced and bottled by hand in Frutigen in the Bernese Oberland.

How do I use marmot oil?

Marmot fat on its own is neither warming nor cooling. For a warming effect, massage the marmot oil into your back and muscles. For a neutral or cooling effect, apply the marmot oil to your joints (do not massage in; massages generate heat). You can apply marmot oil on its own. But the full power is revealed when you use it together with our marmot ointments. This is how you achieve the strongest mixture of marmot fat and powerful herbs. Discover the power of marmot oil and feel the soothing relief from nature.

Where does the power come from?

Marmot oil has a unique power. Natural cortisone-related substances*. As a protective mechanism – acquired over thousands of years – the marmot stores this active ingredient in its fat. According to current knowledge, it is the only animal species in the world that stores it in this concentration. Handmade in Frutigen in the beautiful Bernese Oberland

100% natural, no artificial additives, no compromises

We only use Swiss marmot oil.

We completely avoid artificial preservatives, fragrances and colors

We have been selling our own marmot oil since 1981.

How is marmot oil made?

Marmot oil is extracted from marmot fat, that is, from the fat of the marmot. This fat is processed under heat and remains in oil form (up to a certain temperature). This is why it is also called marmot oil. We obtain our marmot fat exclusively from Swiss hunters. This way we guarantee what we believe to be the best way of keeping animals: in their natural habitat. The marmots are not hunted for their fat, but to curb overpopulation and disease. The extraction of marmot fat is actually the utilization of a valuable raw material that would otherwise have no use.

Do you have a question?

Here you will find answers to many questions about our marmot herbal ointments and the other products made from marmot fat. If you want to know more, don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to your question.

Ask a Question

Where does marmot oil come from?

The marmot fat, the chamois fat and the badger fat all come from Swiss hunters. We buy these high-quality raw materials directly and exclusively from responsible Swiss hunters. This means we know exactly where our animal fats come from.

In order to prevent overpopulation and diseases, the population of these wild animals is controlled through hunting. The federal government and the respective cantons monitor the hunting.

Marmot oil stinks! Right?

That was probably how it used to be! It depends a lot on the careful processing of the marmot fat. High-quality marmot oil has little odor of its own and smells similar to vegetable oil. There are natural differences in the scent of our marmot oil. Because every animal is different. That cannot be avoided. Otherwise we have to add fragrances to the marmot oil. And that is out of the question for us. Our marmot oil should remain 100% natural.

We only use marmot oil of the highest quality for our natural products. The addition of various herbal mixtures gives our marmot herbal ointments, for example, not only strength but also a pleasantly refreshing scent. See for yourself.

Marmot oil softens bones. Is that true?

This is a widely held opinion among the people. We take this scientifically unproven theory seriously. Therefore, and also for our own safety, we limit the use of pure marmot oil to 2 to 4 times a week.

The amount of marmot oil in our marmot herbal ointments and massage oils is adjusted so that you can safely use them several times a day for an unlimited period of time.

Our opinion:
We think that this information is based on early traditions. At that time, medicine was not as advanced as it is today. Osteoporosis (also called "bone loss"), for example, was unknown. The oil was used a lot in the past. Users probably blamed some bone fractures on the marmot oil.

We have been selling our marmot products since 1992 (marmot oil since 1981) and have not received a single response on this topic. Many therapists have also been working with our products on a daily basis for years. We have not received any negative feedback here either.

Can I also drink marmot oil?
We generally recommend external use. However, it is not dangerous or problematic to drink marmot oil. In individual cases, oral intake can be beneficial.
Since when has marmot oil been used?
Marmot oil found its way into pharmaceutical dictionaries early on. "It brings and promotes sleep and is very good for the brain" was how the effects of marmot fat were assessed over 400 years ago. Our ancestors recognized the effects of marmot oil early on and used it for muscles, joints and the entire musculoskeletal system. The Swiss and Tyroleans in particular sold marmot oil as they traveled around.
How often can I use products containing marmot oil?

You can safely use the marmot herbal ointments, the marmot massage oil and Marmotte several times a day. The many positive feedbacks show that satisfaction is very high when used several times a day ( for example, once in the morning and once in the evening).

You can use pure marmot oil two to four times a week. It is ideal for strengthening our marmot herbal ointments. Simply add a drop of marmot oil when rubbing in the marmot ointment. This way you can unleash the full power of the marmot oil and the herbs.

How does someone come up with the idea of making products with marmot oil?
Andreas Schmid has been an enthusiastic nature lover for many years. He first came into contact with marmot fat as a hunter. Marmot oil is a centuries-old household remedy. His father-in-law used marmot oil for years to help his muscles and joints. Andreas then began to procure marmot fat from hunters and pass it on. Thanks to a chance meeting with a herbalist, the warming marmot herbal ointment was born in 1992. The cooling marmot herbal ointment followed in 1996.
Storage and shelf life

If stored correctly, our marmot ointments, marmot oil and massage oils have a shelf life of 2 years. Store our marmot products in a cool place and protected from light. It doesn't have to be the fridge. The medicine cabinet in your home is sufficient. You can find the best-before date on the product.

A small request from us:
Remember. The date on the products means “best before” and not «dangerously off» 😊. If the product still smells good, you can use it for longer.

What active ingredients does marmot oil contain?

Marmot oil received scientific confirmation in a 1988 research report*. This study found that various corticosteroids (natural relatives of cortisone) were present in small amounts in marmot fat. This natural cortisone substance is sufficient to give marmot fat its special power. This finding was new and unique in the animal world. This report points out that marmot oil and badger fat have been used to treat various ailments since the Middle Ages at the latest. The focus has always been on external use for the musculoskeletal system.
